Since its inception in 1931, the Hahnenkamm Ski Race has marked the height of the annual World Cup racing season. No other event draws more attention in Austria – and only the biannual World Championship and the quadrennial Winter Olympic Games come close. The world’s finest skiers rip down the famed Streif Run each January – the men the last weekend of the month, the women a week prior. Look easy? All but the most dangerous sections of the racecourse are open to the public after the race wraps up in late January. Give it a try. The course does appear somewhat steeper when you’re looking down it than when you’re looking at it on TV. For additional race information and tickets, contact the Kitzbüheler Skiclub.
